August 2019 The Minister for Immigration and Integration, Mr. Mattias Tesfaye, and Mr. Anser Manzoor Hussain, President of DPAC (Danish Pakistani Affairs Council), met today to discuss important issues related to people with Pakistani roots living in Denmark.

Former Integrationsminister, Ms. Inger Støjberg, categorized Pakistan into Main Visa Group 5 of third-country visa-requiring countries and regions – e.g-, in the worst category possible along with war-torn countries such as Afghanistan, Eritrea, Somalia, Iraq, and Syria. Back then. We thought it was an irrational and unacceptable visa discrimination against people of Pakistani origin, and also thought that something serious needed to be done about the mis-categorization.

Since then there has been a change of government and we have got a new Immigration and Integration Minister, Mr. Mattias Tesfaye, from the Social Democratic Party. We had recently requested a meeting with the Minister on behalf of the Pakistani Diaspora in Denmark and DPAC (Danish Pakistani Affairs Council) to present facts in this area so that we can get a change as soon as possible and have Pakistan join the Main Group 3 or 4 if better options are not possible in the first place.

At today’s meeting, we furthermore had a general discussion about integration, and we pointed out the good statistics for large parts of the Pakistani diaspora and their descendants, and also underlined how, in particular DPAC, it’s CEB members, their families and children are doing really well in the community, incl. for many years been positive contributors on many aspects of society. Thus, we should not put such splendid examples (and the overall Pakistani diaspora) in the same booth as many others with major problems. We are all interested in positive integration and we all want Denmark the best. Working together in the same direction, we can reach the goals very soon.
